3 Heatwave-Proof Outfits Inspired By Zoë Kravitz
The ultimate guide to looking (and staying) cool in the city.
When I think of heatwave dressing, I automatically think of Zoë Kravitz. She is a huge source of style inspiration for myself, and the rest of the internet, all year round but especially in the summer. Her mix of masculine and feminine pieces create a feeling of tension within her outfits that really elevate the whole look. I think it is this tomboy style that keeps her looking effortlessly cool (in every sense of the word) even in the summer months.
Look One:
This outfit is so simple, yet so effective. To the untrained eye it may appear to just be an oversized T-shirt and some athletic-style shorts, but it is actually so much more than that. The relaxed style of the base of the outfit is perfect for warm weather, the pieces are comfortable, flowy and breathable, but on its own it is nothing special. The magic of this outfit is in the accessories. The cap and tote bag add a pop of red, which, in my opinion, instantly elevates an outfit, all while tying the look together through this common colour. The cap ties into the sporty and masculine side of the outfit, while the tote bag feeds into the effortlessness that it exudes. And then, there are the shoes.
The shoes are really where the magic happens in this look. The delicate femininity of the Mary Janes transforms the entire look. By creating such a binary between the shoes and the rest of the look, Kravitz has gone from effortless to effortlessly cool. The simple addition of these ballet flats highlights that the look has been intentionally styled rather than just worn.
Look Two:
This look really speaks to the power of a summer dress. The one that Kravitz is sporting is most probably vintage (which automatically makes it cooler than current ones) and the babydoll style adds an inherently feminine feel to the look while still feeling quite effortless and dressed-down. This silhouette is not only feminine but also great for the warm weather as it is relaxed and breathable.
I’ve seen a couple of variations of this look on Zoë that I have conflated into one for this outfit, with her often adding a pop of red either through shoes or a hair accessory. This brings an element of vibrancy to the look which really adds to the summery feel of the outfit.
Look Three:
This final look feels quintessentially Zoë. The combination of masculinity and femininity, as well as formal and casual elements, create the tension that is always present in Kravitz’s looks. The relaxed tee layered over the silk and lace slip not only plays into these binaries but also demonstrates how you can still utilise layering in your summer outfits.
Of course, this outfit still features Zoë’s signature pop of red with this large tote bag which adds yet another eye-catching element to the look.
