The Holiday Edit - Part One
Or 'The Vacation Edit' for my US and Canadian readers.
My favourite season for shopping is finally here: summer holidays.
I love holiday styling, it is my absolute favourite thing to dress for. While not controversial, I do feel that this is a bit of an unpopular opinion. I always see people loving autumn and winter styling because of the layering that comes hand-in-hand with the colder seasons. But, personally, I would choose the texture, colour and silhouettes that come with summer outfits over any other season.
The main argument I see against summer styling is that there is less to work with. But while you’re technically wearing less clothes, you can still create tension and interest in your looks by playing with colour, formality, texture, femininity, masculinity, androgyny, and proportions (need I go on). There is so much potential, even with a limited canvas.
Plus, just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that you can't layer. You can wear a linen or cotton shirt open over a bikini or tank top, or pair an oversized top with a maxi skirt or trousers to achieve a similar feeling to that of a layered look. There is still so much to play with in the summer months, so I’ve styled twelve looks to prove it.
So, to all of my autumn and winter lovers, I urge you to give summer styling another shot. It might just surprise you.
